DOUG ‘MANKY’ FLACK

Douglas “Manky” Flack passed away suddenly at home on Monday 19th November from a massive brain haemorrhage.
Doug had cycled with Teign Valley Pedal Bashers for many years, both on and off road, and he was an important and popular member of our group, being our original Web Master until fairly recently. In fact he was the Bash I.T. Guru because he designed and set up the system that modernised the Bash and brought us into the 21st Century, for that alone we are eternally grateful.
But that’s not all, he was first and foremost a Gentleman, as well as kind, thoughtful, interesting and very intelligent – I doubt he had an enemy in this world and everybody liked him for what he was. This is why it’s been so difficult for us to comprehend why he’s been taken from us and his family so early, when he had so much to live for and so much more to give,  in particular with respect to his daughter, Lucy, who is due to give birth any day now to a Granddaughter. How difficult it must be for Ruth, her girls Lucy & Roz, and the extended family to have to experience the joy of a new life, together with the devastation of their husband and father’s sudden death.
However, we are all now be left with so many special happy precious memories of our times spent together when we recall the life of a truly exceptional man who was our friend too.
Manky’s funeral will be held on Thursday 6th December at 11:30am in the larger chapel at Exeter Crematorium.
There is no dress code and it’s likely to be Humanist Service. There will be a gathering afterwards at The Mill on the Exe, Exeter.

With great Sadness,

BOBBIBALL WEEKEND – February 2019

Hi All,

Please see below details of next years Bobbiball weekend that Anna ‘Always’ (or is it Bothways? I always get them mixed up!!) Atkinson has asked me to post.

Its that time of the year when we start taking bookings for the amazing the “Bobbibal Festival”.

This year however the Bobbibal festival is being dedicated to Snakebite who was one of our regular “bobbiballers” only missing last year due to ill health. The date we have chosen for the 2019 weekend coincides with Snakey sadly losing his fight against cancer so for 1 year only we have renamed the festival “The Snakebite Festival” to allow us to celebrate a great guy, cyclist and friend.

This year we are going to the Brecon Beacons in Wales for a weekend of cycling and fun – yes the most fun you can legally have in one weekend. The format will be the same – Friday evening meeting for food & copious amounts of alcohol, Saturday a full day of cycling supported by a pub lunch and evening meal followed by a nights partying, bringing back the fancy dress theme. A final day of cycling ends the weekend on Sunday.

Dates February 08/02/2019 – 10/08/2019.

Venue: YHA Brecon Beacons

Cost: £65:00 per person in the hostel – sorry we have had to put the prices up this year due to the increase in the cost of the YHA hostel.

£35:00 per person in campervans – there should be enough room for campervans on site but we will confirm this.

Booking: Places will be in short supply in the hostel due to its size so BOOK EARLY. To secure your place a £20:00 deposit is required PLEASE email me once you have transferred the money and I will send you a receipt.

Once the hostel is full we will run a “cancellation list” for people interested and who were unable to book on. If interested please contact Anna

TEIGNMOUTH PAVILION TOURS

Hi Bashers

On Friday 28th September, Basher Mike “Noddy” Slade is conducting the first of his personally led tours of Teignmouth Pavilions.

For all those interested in his project, you should meet Noddy “The Chief Tour Guide and Director of Maintenance and Facilities” at reception next Friday at 10.00 am, and it’s free !!

If you can’t make this one then they are due to take place every month. Noddy would welcome Bashers to support these tours as he is sure you would find them very worthwhile.

JACK “RJ” SMITH’S MEMORIAL BASH

Hi Bashers & All friends of Jack Smith,

Sadly Jack was taken from us almost one year ago on September 29th.

We all miss him so much and we feel it is pertinent that we should dedicate Basmarty’s Bash ride on Sunday 30th September to his memory and our tragic loss.

So the RJ memorial bash will start from his spiritual home the Newton Abbot Rugby Club at 11.00 am. We should be back from the ride from 1.30 onwards.

N.B. There are plenty of flat traffic free trails to tackle if you don’t fancy the planned bash route. If you can’t ride or haven’t got a bike and loved Jack as much as us, then why not join us back at the club.

Noddy & Big Ears Sunday Bash

Hi all Bashers who are planning to come to Noddy & Big Ears Bash On Sunday 19th August.

Please note that the ride will start from Trucker’s field ~ NOT the Teign House Inn.

Noddy promises a flat ride of approx 20 miles which will break for food & refreshments at The Teign House Inn before we return to our cars at Truckers – which is 4 miles further down the road.

Additionally please note that on Sunday 26th August Basmarti is planning another bash ride from the Post Inn, Whiddon Down. This is new and unique Bash territory featuring our beautiful rural Devon countryside, which he says is fairly flat and less than 20 miles.
The Landlord of this pub looked after us very well last time and, hopefully, you will be able to give even more support to Basmarti’s initiative on the 26th.
Ride On,
Pottsie.

TRUCKERS WEEKEND

Just a quick clarification message with respect to Truckers weekend in August.

The shenanigans will commence from the afternoon of Friday 10th and Trucker has arranged for a minibus to transport us upto Dunsford for Fish & Chips either in The Royal Oak or The Walled Garden – depending on numbers. Therefore, please let Trucker know direct BY FRIDAY AUGUST 3rd AT THE LATEST if you will be there and if you want to eat, this will allow time for the orders to be placed and whichever venue we are using to prepare everything.

The rest of the weekend will be as previously promulgated, please note that although there will be some BBQ food and beer available for the paltry sum of £5 – HOW MUCH!! – that Bruce will collect on the weekend, people are requested to bring their own drink and additional food/nibbles etc – we cannot expect everything to be provided after all.

Any questions please direct to Trucker, Senior Bash Officers, or, as a last resort, myself.

ON ON.

Gazza.
