All Bashers intending to drive to the Bash this Sunday 6th January, are requested to park at Greenawell Park Farm, TQ12 6EW, AND NOT Denbury Green near the pub.
The intention is to leave the farm at 10:45 to cycle up to The Union Inn, Denbury for the traditional start time of 11:00.
Hi all Bash Tax Payers, our Fancy Dress Bash & Party is being held on Sunday 23rd December starting from the Starcross Fishing & Cruising Club from 10:15 AM onwards.
This year, once again, it will cost just £10 (any visitors/guests/ & non tax payers will have to pay £15). As always the fancy dress theme is “anything goes” i.e. it’s your chance to surprise and amuse others with your personal choice, on your own or in a group ~ BUT REMEMBER ~ you should be able to ride a bike with your kit on! Fancy dress is not compulsory but it is advisable if you want to get into the spirit of the day.
The format and route is now traditional, so we will start with nibbles and drink at the SF&CC car park – where we will also take a group photo before we set off, about 11am, to ride to the gathering in Dawlish Warren – opposite the Boat House pub for Mince Pies, Sherry, Carol Singing etc etc. Then it’s on to the Brunswick Pub in Dawlish, via the cycle path, to gather once again in the skittle alley for some more nibbles – You will need some cash here to pay for a drink.
Then, it’s cycle back the 4 miles to Starcross via the cycle path for Lunch which will be served from about 2:15 – Please note the best place to spend your money on booze before lunch is at the SF&CC cos it’s offers really inexpensive wine, shorts & beer.
After Lunch there will be a Disco till about 6:30 pm and the bar will close when demand peters out.
Both trains and buses serve Starcross so there is no excuse not to let you hair down – if you’ve got enough that is!
What we need now is £10 for your ticket – Cash payable to Pottsie or Sticky, or you can pay by credit transfer to Barclays Bank, Sort Code 20-60-88, A/c 90455377 – please ensure you let Sticky know if you do this by email to email@example.com
NOTE: We need ALL bookings & payments to be received by
DECEMBER 16th LATEST!!
Please see below some details from Ruth, with respect to Manky’s funeral.
Doug’s funeral will be on Thursday 6th December at 11.30 at St. Peter’s chapel, Exeter Crematorium, Topsham Rd. Exeter, EX2 6EU.
There will be no dress code; Doug wasn’t given to convention or formality.
Following the service, there will be a reception at The Mill on the Exe, Bonhay Rd, Exeter, EX4 3AB
There will be an opportunity to share memories and anecdotes of Doug for those that might wish to stand and speak. If you wish to do this, please contact Doug’s brother, Chris Flack, on firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have any photos of Doug, please print these and bring them along. There will be a chance to display them.
Similarly there will be a book available should you want to share a thought/memory about Doug.
We would ask that there are no floral tributes.
There will be a collection for the Devon Wildlife Trust at the end of the Service. Doug was a Devon man born and bred who loved his county and its flora and fauna.
Douglas “Manky” Flack passed away suddenly at home on Monday 19th November from a massive brain haemorrhage.
Doug had cycled with Teign Valley Pedal Bashers for many years, both on and off road, and he was an important and popular member of our group, being our original Web Master until fairly recently. In fact he was the Bash I.T. Guru because he designed and set up the system that modernised the Bash and brought us into the 21st Century, for that alone we are eternally grateful.
But that’s not all, he was first and foremost a Gentleman, as well as kind, thoughtful, interesting and very intelligent – I doubt he had an enemy in this world and everybody liked him for what he was. This is why it’s been so difficult for us to comprehend why he’s been taken from us and his family so early, when he had so much to live for and so much more to give, in particular with respect to his daughter, Lucy, who is due to give birth any day now to a Granddaughter. How difficult it must be for Ruth, her girls Lucy & Roz, and the extended family to have to experience the joy of a new life, together with the devastation of their husband and father’s sudden death.
However, we are all now be left with so many special happy precious memories of our times spent together when we recall the life of a truly exceptional man who was our friend too.
Manky’s funeral will be held on Thursday 6th December at 11:30am in the larger chapel at Exeter Crematorium.
There is no dress code and it’s likely to be Humanist Service. There will be a gathering afterwards at The Mill on the Exe, Exeter.
With great Sadness,
Please see below details of next years Bobbiball weekend that Anna ‘Always’ (or is it Bothways? I always get them mixed up!!) Atkinson has asked me to post.
Its that time of the year when we start taking bookings for the amazing the “Bobbibal Festival”.
This year however the Bobbibal festival is being dedicated to Snakebite who was one of our regular “bobbiballers” only missing last year due to ill health. The date we have chosen for the 2019 weekend coincides with Snakey sadly losing his fight against cancer so for 1 year only we have renamed the festival “The Snakebite Festival” to allow us to celebrate a great guy, cyclist and friend.
This year we are going to the Brecon Beacons in Wales for a weekend of cycling and fun – yes the most fun you can legally have in one weekend. The format will be the same – Friday evening meeting for food & copious amounts of alcohol, Saturday a full day of cycling supported by a pub lunch and evening meal followed by a nights partying, bringing back the fancy dress theme. A final day of cycling ends the weekend on Sunday.
Dates February 08/02/2019 – 10/08/2019.
Venue: YHA Brecon Beacons
Cost: £65:00 per person in the hostel – sorry we have had to put the prices up this year due to the increase in the cost of the YHA hostel.
£35:00 per person in campervans – there should be enough room for campervans on site but we will confirm this.
Booking: Places will be in short supply in the hostel due to its size so BOOK EARLY. To secure your place a £20:00 deposit is required PLEASE email me once you have transferred the money and I will send you a receipt.
Once the hostel is full we will run a “cancellation list” for people interested and who were unable to book on. If interested please contact Anna

On Friday 28th September, Basher Mike “Noddy” Slade is conducting the first of his personally led tours of Teignmouth Pavilions.
For all those interested in his project, you should meet Noddy “The Chief Tour Guide and Director of Maintenance and Facilities” at reception next Friday at 10.00 am, and it’s free !!
If you can’t make this one then they are due to take place every month. Noddy would welcome Bashers to support these tours as he is sure you would find them very worthwhile.
Hi Bashers & All friends of Jack Smith,
Sadly Jack was taken from us almost one year ago on September 29th.
We all miss him so much and we feel it is pertinent that we should dedicate Basmarty’s Bash ride on Sunday 30th September to his memory and our tragic loss.
So the RJ memorial bash will start from his spiritual home the Newton Abbot Rugby Club at 11.00 am. We should be back from the ride from 1.30 onwards.
N.B. There are plenty of flat traffic free trails to tackle if you don’t fancy the planned bash route. If you can’t ride or haven’t got a bike and loved Jack as much as us, then why not join us back at the club.
